R.C. PRO AM II

R.C. PRO AM II

The R.C. Pro-Am series was developed by Rare Ltd. Its first entry began on the NES giving the player an overhead view of their radio-controlled racers on various tracks. Up to two human drivers can participate. There is a Championship mode that allows players to compete for points and money that can be used to improve their racers. The second entry, R.C. Pro-Am II, came late in the lifespan of the NES® but expanded with more weapons, upgrades, tracks, environments, and bonus rounds. You can now play with up to four human players on the same screen. The series would also see entries on the SEGA Mega Drive® and Genesis® as Championship Pro-Am as well as the Game Boy® as Super R.C. Pro-Am - even allowing for two-player action via the Link Cable.

R.C. Pro-Am II stood out amongst other racers and games on the NES® with it being considered one of the best games on the console. On top of being a great game, it was one of the handful of games that supported up to four players. It’s limited distribution towards the end of the console’s lifespan also meant it was hard to find even years after its release. Over the years, its rarity amongst both fans and collectors has saw prices rise across both the North American and European releases - especially the PAL release. In Europe, it has a smaller release and it can run natively. In our efforts for game preservation, we have created both version separately allowing them to be purchased at a fair price.

Launched near the end of 1992, Rare launched the sequel to their hit NES® racer with R.C. Pro-Am II. It came as a surprise as the SNES® had just launched the year prior and  ost new releases we jumping up to 16-bits. Once players got their hands on the game, however, the improvements made over the previous entry were apparent. Races are viewed in an isometric-overhead angle and your finishing position will net you points - unless you finish last then it is Game Over. You can also pick up money while racing which allows you to  urchase upgrades for your vehicle. New weapons like the Freeze Beam, Buckshot, and Nitro bring order to the chaos to let your racer cross the finish line before the rest. The new track designs feature three different terrains with additional hazards to avoid and even bonus games such as Tug-o-Truck and Drag Racing. If you really want to amp up the fun, bring in three other human racers and compete in the championship to see who is the best!
